See the Good

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev says something incredible. He says that we need to always want to see only the good in other people – only the good. What is amazing, is that Rebbe Nachman says that when we do this, then we will begin to see the good in ourselves as well. Even more, Rebbe Nachman says that we will actually start to feel and experience the good in ourselves. We will begin to truly see ourselves in a positive fashion.

This is the most difficult war that we have to fight, is to fight the Evil Inclination in our thoughts. The Evil Inclination’s entire battle is just to put those bad thoughts into our mind: “You’re bad,” “You’re evil,” “You’re not successful.” All sorts of disparaging thoughts that a person begins to feel like he is the worst person in the world, with no ability to ever improve or become good. However, when we start instead to see the good in ourselves, and believe in the good in ourselves – then he beats the Evil Inclination!

We are all human beings; flesh and blood. We make mistakes, we sin, and fall short in various ways. However, even with all that – your self-image still must be positive! You do teshuva – you repent. Continue to be happy because you did teshuva.

It should be Hashem’s will that every one of us should have the ability to see the good in others, and even more importantly, the good in ourselves. Then with Hashem’s help, we’ll always be happy. Amen!
